Re-establishment of partnership with RTBF and renewed commitment to Brussels Pride

The LGBTQIA+ RainbowHouse Brussels Federation took the initiative of contacting the IEFH (Institut pour l’Égalité des Femmes et des Hommes) and the CSA (Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel), following the broadcast of a sketch by the parody Grand Cactus on 24 September 2024, which referred to the song “3e sexe” by the group Indochine and to the singer Rahim Redcar.

The RainbowHouse Brussels Federation has announced the resumption of its partnership with RTBF and Brussels Pride, after a break following the broadcast of this sketch. The dialogue between RTBF and various LGBTQIA+ associations, groups and activists has helped to clarify the feelings and realities of the people concerned since September 2024. The meeting was marked by a rich, frank and constructive dialogue.

We have noted and observed that RTBF has not waited for the outcome of this situation to intensify its efforts to raise awareness of diversity, and particularly of issues relating to LGBTQIA+ people. Since 2022, training courses have been organised for various internal departments as well as for the Grand Cactus team. In partnership with Média-Animation asbl and the LGBTQIA+ Federation Prisme, RTBF has also developed a toolkit for integrating diversity principles into its business. Visible actions were put in place, such as content disclaimers on social networks, a radio programme on transidentites (Les Clés d’Arnaud Ruyssen), additional content in the LGBTQIA+ tab of the RTBF Tip!k and RTBF Auvio platforms, as well as several capsules and testimonials via RTBF Vews.

Throughout this period, the IEFH and the CSA received complaints from LGBTQIA+ actors. All the files are handled independently by each party. The IEFH issued several recommendations. The final report from the CSA is expected in the next few weeks.

The RainbowHouse Brussels Federation thanks all those involved in this process of dialogue and salutes the commitment of RTBF. The theme of Brussels Pride 2025, ‘Unite, time to protect our rights, freedom, health, identity, diversity, communities, fight’, will carry the energy of all the LGBTQIA+ people involved. See you on 17 May 2025, to celebrate diversity and inclusion together!
